Authentic Nepali Cooking Class in Thamel, Nepal

Welcome to Nepal Cooking School in Thamel, Kathmandu. Our kitchen is a place where travelers can slow down, cook with us and experience Nepal through the food people know, prepare and share in everyday life. From the moment you join us, the experience is hands-on, friendly and personal. You are not here simply to watch a demonstration. You take part in preparing the dishes, learn the techniques behind them, ask questions along the way and sit down to enjoy the food you have made yourself.

Nepali cooking is closely tied to family, hospitality, tradition and the way people live across the country. That is why our classes focus on more than recipes alone. We help you understand the ingredients, spices, preparation methods and balance of flavors that give Nepali food its character, while also sharing the cultural meaning behind the dishes. Our aim is to present Nepali cuisine with care and respect, giving you a more genuine understanding of the food rather than a simplified version created only for visitors.

At Nepal Cooking School, we want every guest to leave with something real: practical cooking skills, a clearer understanding of Nepali food and a memorable connection with the culture behind it. Whether you are a complete beginner, an enthusiastic home cook or simply curious about local food, you are welcome in our kitchen. Come cook with us in Kathmandu, share the experience and take a little of Nepal home through the dishes you learn to make.

Our Classes

Our Social Enterprise

The profit from our cooking school is used to fund social programs for our organisation, Journey Nepal, which has been operating since 2012. Our focus is on empowering women and girls and we have a special relationship with a village of 5,000 people, called Fulkharka in the remote area of Dhading. This area was particularly hard hit by the earthquakes of April 2015 and we’ve been working hard to rebuild the schools in the area. The cooking school has been set up to help us implement programs to improve the education of girls throughout Nepal who would otherwise miss out on an education. View More
